The time you have chosen to visit the Lakes is not really a good one as museums tend to be closedfor the winter months. This might apply to the Abbot Hall where there is the Ransome Room already mentioned, but also the Windermere Steamboat museum at Windermere where you could see the Amazon and Cocky. In Coniston there is the Ruskin Museum which has been rebuilt and rearranged but that may be closed too. However, you can look at Wild Cat Island on Coniston from the East and Western shore of the Lake. And that is worth a trip ! So is staying at Holly Howe where you can see the boat house and the field where Roger tacked his imaginary boat at the start of S & A . Hope you are lucky with the weather. It could be pure magic and give you a feel of Winter Holiday if you are lucky.
