AR may well have preferred sail to steam/diesel on the water, but on land...?
We know AR built a model steam engine when he was small and was also skilled at repairing his home generator when needed. He also motorcycled rather than bicycled although in the less than flat Lake District - I have full sympathy with this mode of transport.
