In Winter Holiday, at the end of Chapter VII, Arctic Voyage, there is a part that has always bothered me and I wonder if it bothers anyone else.

Everyone but Nancy has just rowed across to Beckfoot, (where they are about to find out about the mumps). They come to the boathouse...

"What's that crest?" said Dorothea. "What is it? There's a skull and cross-bones."

"Oh, that," said Peggy. "All part of the same thing. It belongs to the Amazon Pirates. Summer, you know. Nothing to do with the Arctic..."

I have never liked that, because it makes it seem like the children are just playing at seasonal games as something separate from themselves, rather than a way they define themselves. I'm not saying that quite right, but I would be interested in knowing if anyone else has been bothered by Peggy's statement.
