One might as well ask how a major situation may arise and reach a satisfactory resolution within the 25, 50, or 120 minutes of a typical television show or movie. The time constraints imposed by that particular art form are equally unreasonable; should we petition the BBC to drop the notion of filming the Ransome books? For that matter, how can life be encapsulated within 150, 300, or even 1000, pages? Should we dispense with fiction writing?
By all means, let whomever develop the musical version. It will stand or fail on its own merits, independent of the popularity of the original, much as Oliver! or Cats did. And it may draw some new readers to Ransome. That can't be bad now, can it?
