A bravura display, Jock! I can't match that. And there's the problem really - not many of us can. I don't really understand why Jock feels he has to put up such an impassioned and technically skilled defence of the "plumbing" type of topic (including 'Biggles', 'Flashman', 'Vinaigrette of Bull's Muzzle', School Milk', 'Mrs Thatcher' etc) - the fact is that the battle is long over. The 'Plumbing Tendency' has won, hands down. People like myself have lost, and have been side-lined. In vain I look for a specifically Ransome topic, and if I put up a weeny grumble about this, the big guns of HMS Goltz open up. And where are all the other people who used to post specifically on Ransome topics? Mostly casualties, it seems to me.
But I'd like to have one more lone attempt at posting on Ransome. Could I possibly do this without being blasted out of the water? Just to show that I am trying very hard to conform to the Jockite style of posting:-
