I'm not sure I agree with the author either but it is an interesting commentary.

For those who don't get MM the article talked about the 'hidden' element of money, and how the natives who provided lodging, food, milk, eggs, meals, etc. to the S&A would be paid by Mrs. Walker and Mrs. Blackett - even though that has no relevance within the stories and is rightfully omitted. But even granting the author's premise Mrs. Tyson could have billed a fair amount for supplies.
