I've always thought that too. Pondering it recently I've come up with a theory that Bridget was adopted. If she had arrived in the family fairly recently it would explain why it was worth comment that Roger was no longer the youngest and why they didn't know when her birthday was.
Actually, I also believe that in those days before greetings card manufacturers had gone to town making commercial advantage out of every possible celebration people probably made less of birthdays. but it's sad to think that none of the other Swallows thought it worth getting a birthday present for Bridget.
I bet none of them had any truck with Mother's day either which is, in accordance with my wishes, being ignored in my home to-day.
