As I know essentially nothing about the Public School system, feel free to educate me. Might it be due to their birthdays falling during Term time? I'd expect a school would, if it actually observed student birthdays, lump all those of a given month into one event. Cards, presents, or the like from parents or other relatives wouldn't necessarily arrive on the correct (or even all on the same) day. And siblings not at the same school wouldn't necessarily be aware of any "festivities" tied to the day, or even month.
