Ed is such a star and you Peter are undoubtedly another!

Oh dear, the statement above illustrates just how different we all are. I mean no offence by what follows, I am just being honest. Leaving Ed to one side for a minute, I don't accept the compliment about myself. If it was seriously intended (and not ironic), then it makes me feel a bit yukky. I am not a TarBoard 'Star' (the Demon King, more like) and I certainly do not want to be. I just want to post about Arthur Ransome. What I do expect is equal and fair treatment, no more no less. I would deplore any 'Hollywood' type of 'special treatment' on this board. There are no 'stars', just people devoted to AR.

Therefore, on exactly the same principles, I regard Ed as a Ransome devotee and I respect him for that as I respect all other devotees. However, I feel that one ought to be free to challenge Ed on what he may say without being accused of some sort of blasphemy or 'swearing in church'. I acknowledge that any such challenge ought to be polite and respectful, but occasionally tempers slip. As I have said before, none of us acts through malice, and even if we say something over-hasty, maybe there is an element of truth in it. That is why I would deplore any type of 'star' or hierarchical system on TarBoard. Or, to pursue the 'school' metaphor, the creation of 'Senior Prefects' whom no one dare disagree with.

Q for Jock: He mentioned a 'Deputy Headmaster' from which I assume he sees himself as the 'Headmaster'. Is he absolutely happy about that?
