The whole snaplink is known as a krab the 'mousing bit' is the gate. Although builders and other high access workers use climbing harnesses and krabs the hooks they use for lifting are rather different I think. I can see why you might choose to mouse some of these from time to time but not the moving parts of sailing boats which, almost by definition, tend to flap around when not under tension.
