Hello Joy

It be International Talk Like a Pirate Day, me hearties!

I write as someone who has realised that my sense of humour does not match that of TarBoard in general. Comments of mine which I think are very jokey are tut-tutted at (or more usually ignored) by TarBoarders, whilst topics which other TarBoarders appear to find hilarious (eg 'Beckfoot plumbing') I just don't 'get'.

Having admitted this handicap, I'm afraid I'm now going to have to ask, in genuine puzzlement, what is the joke about 'talking like a pirate'? OK, I can see that it's a bit quaint, and it sounds vaguely jolly, but - is that all ? Sorry, but this is something else I don't 'get'. For me, when Nancy said 'Shiver my timbers!', she wasn't being comical but was expressing genuine surprise or annoyance.
