I'm curious about other possible Americanisms in two AR books I've read since Ed pointed out 'howdy'. What about Ted Walker discussing whether Mary Walker will be 'mad with/at' the Swallows in WDMTGTS when they return from Holland? and what about references to the D's 'vacation' at the beginning of TPATM? Ted Walker could have rubbed up against some Americans during his Far East sojourn, but I alwys thought 'vacation' was purely American.
