Being an American, I am hardly able to judge what expressions are
really commonly used in the British version of English, but perhaps
those of you more closely related to that vernacular can be more
observant, and can clarify my own misconceptions.
I offer here another possible Americanism, not knowing how commonly
accepted such verbage is in the British mode. The word offered
for consideration is the "WIGWAM", which is the name used to refer
to the "hut" in which the charcoal-burners dwell. I have the current
impression that such a word is really of American Indian origin, or
at least an American expression. Somehow, I think I remember a
reference to "Teepee", but could be wrong in that. These two words
are very similar in meaning, so much so I am at a loss as to how
to differentiate these two concepts.
