For anyone interested in Ransome-esque outdoor skills this site is great...
Much of it was written by the founders of the American scouting movement in the early part of the 20th Century, so the tone and intent is very much in tune with Ransome's writing and it concentrates more on DIY, pioneering and Indian lore than more modern sites do. How to make shelters, a sun dial, spanish windlass, how to stalk something without being seen, etc. John and Dick would have lost themselves for hours in here... :-)
