The latest development in the last few years for small boat navigation lights is LED lighting, red/green and white. They are also used as cabin lights because of their low power consumption and drain on limited battery power. However, many older boats still use regular incandescent bulbs and quite a few small boats still use a lantern for a riding light when anchored overnight to avoid draining the battery or running a generator.
