I can only presume somebody will take over the business and carry on.

Hmmm. 'The business' may be very different. When AR set the stories, general stores were the current thing. You can still see many of their buildings, larger than the little SA vintage high street retailers that they were replacing, and mostly rather handsome. But apart from Woolworths, they're all being used for different purposes; our council is using what was a very nice 1930s store for its housing office. Every time I pass it, I think of the books... The only general stores that survive now are really huge, or subdivided into semi-autonomous sections, each one of which is bigger than the general stores were. And Woolworths sales have been headed due south for some time now. So although the name may survive in some form, I don't think the business will. We'll have to buy our picnic plates elsewhere.

I presume that nowadays, port navigation lights are made from red LEDs?
