I did not know about Lowestoft railway station. Something similar was done several years ago at Felixstowe; the old station is a shopping arcade and quite well preserved.
Isn't the same true of Windermere station? Including now being a shop- although that has clearly preserved the old station building in good shape, and the yard in front is intact so you can imagine Rattletrap swinging left out of the entrance and down the road to Bowness/Rio.
When we went there, in my mind's eye I was vividly seeing the beginning of PP.
