That was not my only mistake. Sorry. The Beckfoot rowing boat cannot be Captain Flint's boat because in SA he gets a car from the shore near the houseboat (leaving his boat there, inevitably) and the Swallows find the rowing boat in the boathouse when they do not find AMAZON.

But a boat that will accomodate six children and an adult is no mere yacht tender. She must have been the same size as the Beckfoot rowing boat. She can also row four oars - Captain Flint and John row her this in SD.

Can anyone offer insight into what sort of rowing boat was common on the Lakes in those days - Mary Swainson's boat in which she rows the milk over to Rio must have been quite substantial as well.
