You're right about there being no CERTAIN connection. On the other hand, what more do you need other than a river, Canadian and a song? As far as I know, there are so few well-known Canadian folk songs that The Log-Driver's Waltz might well be it. "Alouette" is one, "The Frozen Logger" is another. "I'se the By that Builds the Boats" is a Newfoundland song, so wouldn't have qualified as a Canadian song until 1949.
