I may be guilty of being an older parent and bringing my sons up inappropriately for the modern age, but they, and several of their friends, know and read the books.
I may also be guilty of living in a rather "twee" little town, but we have a children's bookshop here which has the books constantly on the shelves - and not the same copies - its a well run shop with good turnover.
It is now many years since a once-celebrated, now forgotten, columnist named Jilly Cooper made reference to "...those awful, sexless, Swallows and Amazons" a remark which infuriated the then twenty-something me, and, no doubt, others.
