Elizabeth, We get a glimpse of what Peggy is feeling in WH. I know, because I have just finished reading it again. She is so concerned that she won't let Nancy down, and worries that she is doing what her dominating sister would do if she were not ill. I find the relationship between those two fascinating and think AR handled it very well. He wanted to show Peggy as a rounded character; at the same time to describe her as being in Nancy's shadow. Quite a difficult feat. She is an Amazon pirate, although not in WH, but is frightened of storms and hates sleeping by herself. She tries to be bold and adventurous like Nancy, yet seems to be forcing herself. I think, without Nancy she would be quite shy and reserved. Can't see her in a white party frock, but perhaps more apt to appear in that garb than Nancy ever would.
