Yes, but this is a kind of "redemption" for John's blunder that lead to the wreck at the beginning of the book. He has to win it for a higher dramatical purpose, so fairness to the Amazons is less important.
Still, it is somewhat strange that the boat races are usually won by the Swallows as it is several times hinted at the Amazons' superior sailing skill and experience, and their boat is faster too, if I remember correctly.
Anyway, as at the end of several of the books (especially SD and P&M) several weeks of the holidays are still before the children, there are probably a few unsung battles won by the Amazons.
