I was just adding another strong minded young woman to the list of strong minded young women whom he knew and whose traits he could have drawn on, consciously or not, in sketching the character of Nancy Blackett.
He tells us, if I recall correctly, that he drew on Soong Ching Ling for Missee Lee - so, as with Captain Sehmel and Peter Duck, we have a character "sketched from the life" as regards some "external" characteristics, but I suspect that he drew on a good number of young women to come up with the "internal" characteristics of his heroines.
