Of course, Walker was the maiden name of AR's first wife. I've always found it somewhat strange that, given to understand that the relationship was not always amicable, he used that name.

But at that stage (the early books) wasn't he desperate to keep some kind of relationship with their child Tabitha? And that meant having some kind of continuing civilised relationship with his first wife.

AR was clearly longing to have children- the Altounyans being the surrogates, and then there was the request to adopt Titty... So sad that he and Evgenya couldn't have a family of their own.

If they could, it would be interesting to think what difference it would have made to the books, although they were so well crafted that it's hard to see what it might be. As they stand, they don't express any resentment or frustration, so the removal of it in his life wouldn't necessarily show.
