Finn Family Moomintroll, offers summer, boats, eccentric characters and whimsy. The books were popular with my two who enjoyed having AR read to them but never really took to reading him themselves.
Raoul Dahl is of course at the top of all the charts in the U.K. but the current craze seems to be Henry Potter. I haven't been able to prise any of these out of the hands of myneighbour's son yet. He is about ten and ordinarily an Arsenal fan rather than a reader (yes I know Nick Hornby has shown that the two aren't incompatible) anyway I take the way Kerry is devouring them to be a good sign. He bought the latest in the series hot off the press as a hardback, I thought it looked equisite and was not expensive @ £7
P.S. Henry Potter is the name of the central character not the author.
