An Eminent Victorian, Lord Kelvin, he of Absolute Zero, etc., became interested in sailing during the laying of the transatlantic telegraph cable - interested enough to purchase a schooner. During one of the cable laying trips his ship had to call at the Azores, where he met and fell in love with a young lady. He returned aboard his yacht the following year and signalled:
"WILL YOU MARRY ME?"
by flag, whilst still offshore, to which she responded:
"YES" by Morse.
History indicates that they were happily married for many years...
