Dave, perhaps there is a variation to your "type 3" reader which is the one that most closely defines my situation as one that enjoys reading these books, many times, yet have never been on any of those revered locations - but - I am a daily subscriber to the WWW.LAKELANCAM.CO.UK produced by Tony Richards, and have faithfully downloaded each day's offering to be added to my colleciton of Lake District beautiful photos to presently bring the count to several hundred over thirteen THOUSAND fantastic views of that beautiful part of the world. Through his eyes, and that of his camera, I get to "go there" and SEE for myself those scenes that were so beautifully brought to my mind's eye with the words of Ransome. Such scenes, such as the Dogs' Home and "Holly Howe" and Peel Island, bring out the Reality of his stories whose descriptions make the place all so real by their own merit. I may never actually get there myself, but I am so grateful for having Tony invite me with his camera to accompany him on his walks through the fells, the bracken, the heather, the scattered tarns, the becks tumbling over waterfalls, the rock walls that beg to be climbed, the stone farmhouses with their slate roofs, the boats sailing on those magnificent waters. My WINDOWS SCREEN SAVER delights the eye as scene after scene come before me and lets me enjoy the thrill of "being there." All that is lacking is, "puttng my hand into the lake water."
