It is an interesting book. However, I don't agree with Brogan. Chambers regards AR coolly and impartially on the whole. Where I would fault Chambers is that he occasionally tries to be too clever, and also that he doesn't stand back from facts and events often enough and try to draw the thread together a bit. To really understand what's going on, you need to have a history of the Russian Revolution by your side when you read this book.
I won't say any more right now, because it is irritating when someone has read a book and you haven't. I was sent a review copy, as I have reviewed the book for Mixed Moss. The Last Englishman should be available in the UK next week.
