The mind boggles as to how different schools can be! Next year my Nanton, Alberta, Canada Class of 1960 will be celebrating its 50th. Twenty-one of us started Grade One together, and went right through to Grade 12. About ten others joined along the way. There were two groups - the town kids, and the country kids who rode school buses every day. I was at the end of a route, so spent about 40 minutes in it each way. We shared some of the same teachers our parents, aunts and uncles had. Just about everyone knew each others' families, although there was a divide between those living west of town - the ranchers - and those living on the prairie east of town - the farmers. There was a large prairie field adjacent to the three story brick school. The field served as a baseball diamond, football field, and a great place to drown, snare, and sometimes shoot (older kids could take their .22 on the school bus) the hundreds of gophers. The local hardware store was agent for the province and paid a couple of cents per gopher tail, depending on the supply.
The mind boggles.
