Adam's dates are roughly correct for the winter, but by the 1960s, the summer exams – mid-July in the 50s – had started to move forward, affecting term dates. The dates in 1940s-50s (and I assume the 1930s) were later than Adam states, and I am sure AR was using these. My dates are attempts to remember after 50-60 years, something like:
Michaelmas Term
September 21- December 18

Spring Term
January 18 - April 1*

Summer Term
April 28* - July 25

*even if Easter was early or late. In 1943, it was April 25th, the latest possible date, and school was already back. But in 1951, it was March 25th, and before the Easter holidays.

The only half-term we got was a long weekend at the beginning of July.
