I too wonder what it is about AR that brings me back to him time and time again. It's been 65 years now since I first got SA for Christmas and I can still read it and all the others with pleasure and a wonderful feeling of discovery. Whenever I get tired of wading through the changes wrought in the Church by Vatican II or the ethnic and economic causes of World War I, I turn with relief to (this time) Swallowdale, and my other concerns disappear like Titty's French verbs.
