Like many others, I hold WH and Picts among my favourites (with BS).
Moving to the 'Three million cheers!' question. I have always though that it was Tom responding to the twins' arrival — and did not Nancy use Tom's exclamation? I cannot recall Nancy using it in SA, SD, PD, WH but if she did, somebody will be sure to put me right.
I agree that P&S are attractive characters, which is one of the reasons why the BBC dramatisation does not work for me. From AR's notes and letters made during the books 'long 'germination', I formed the opinion that AR invented P&S for the sole purpose of allowing him to have a 'chase' aboard Broadland craft. They would have unbalanced BS, I am afraid had they remained in Horning. After CC, P&S admirers are left to regret what might have been.
