I remember reading somewhere, that AR has said the WCI was a composite island. The secret harbour came from Peel Island on Coniston the rest was either Ramp or Silver Holme ( I cannot remember without finding the reference)on Windermere.
AR would cut and paste lake district geography to fit his novels - this, to me, makes them more fascinating than the more correctly described geography of the East Anglian books.
