Totally off topic - Tolkien's 1938 letter!

Just saw this letter that Tolkien may or many not have sent to prospective publishers in Germany in 1938 after they enquired after his Aryan heritage. It's a very good letter! I don't know if it was among those previously published (I assume it was, although I hadn't previously happened upon it).

I just wondered whether AR had any difficulties relating to German editions at that time? I have a German edition of Winter Holiday - will have to have a look at the publication date. I don't imagine all publishers / distributors asked such questions of foreign nationals.

It does remind you of the difficult potential clashes between politics and art!
