I too originally thought that Lanehead would remain on the market for some time, but it seems that the owner, a local authority, is anxious to sell as soon as possible, as it is still having to fund maintenance of the house even though unoccupied.

For me, the house still has the atmosphere of a late Victorian holiday home, particularly the ground floor rooms, which are hardly altered. The first floor rooms have mostly been converted into 'dormitory' type ensuite accommodation. How much of this is reversible I don't know - there is evidence of some stud-walling, but I am not an architect so I am not sure. However, the house is being sold as an activity centre, and attempts to do the place up as a luxury lakeside villa will fall foul of the local planning authority. The Lake District National Park Authority runs a very tight ship!

(As to Beckfoot, my theory is that it is a 'spare part' construction, using parts of Lanehead and Tent Lodge and other houses in the area, with bits of local vernacular tacked on, welded together with vivid imagination. I agree that Pull Wood House is not a contender - it looks like it ought to be in Cheshire.)
