Mis-spelling - not important, think no more about it.

What is important is the determination to pursue a goal, against all odds, that Jock describes. I did a quiet bit of investigation a year ago into the Swanage Railway project and Jock's inspirational role in it. I was amazed - there are a lot of things which Tarboard does not tell you.

In the present sale of Lanehead, the Arthur Ransome Trust will be sticking in there, against the odds. The Trust is doing as much as we can behind the scenes. We formed the Trust because we wanted to do something, instead of talking about it. It’s a huge challenge, but you have to give it a try. I visited Lanehead last week and saw a clearing in the garden surrounded by trees and bushes. I immediately thought of that wonderful passage at the start of PP, where the prospectors are in the night-time camp in the Beckfoot garden:

“They sat round it [the camp-fire] and talked, seeing each other’s faces by the light of the flames. Bushes and tree trunks about them flickered into sight and out again as the flames leapt up or died. Everything seemed possible."
