AR did have the notion to instruct booksellers not to sell later books to people before they had read the earlier ones. His publishers (Cape) firmly squashed this notion.
From which we can infer that AR, at least through the first books, felt that it was important to read them in chronological order. There could be several reasons I suppose, but that would at least suggest reading them in that order absent any other compelling reason to do otherwise.
