Well, I believe Dick and Dot were from London, so would be "surrounded" by Scotland Yard references. And as a mystery reader, Dot would have doubtless read a good deal of the literature. I recall, more than a few years ago, finding a reference in some contemporary ('20s) fiction to The Big Five and posting it here.
