The Ransome family did originate in and near Ipswich and their company made lawn mowers among other things.
I'd seen the name on mowers, but not being a gardener I'd just wondered if there might be a connection. Googling, there still seems to be an active company making mowers.
I just watched the 'Countryfile' that includes 'Nancy Blackett'. I'm glad to see that the copy of WD they quote from is as battered as mine. I enjoyed the piece rather a lot- it was surprisingly moving. Nice to see Peter W. in 'old salt' mode.
