Leaving aside the question of which was AR's 'best book', I must reassure AR devotees that the Arthur Ransome Trust (of which I am a trustee) has the long-term aim of setting up an Arthur Ransome Centre in the South Lakes area, i.e. somewhere where people can go to find out about AR and his books, and maybe meet other AR fans. There is no place in the Lakes at present which is exclusively devoted to AR and to which visitors can head when they arrive. For example, Luke Dolman who posted recently about his forthcoming visit to the UK would have found an AR Centre useful, I'm sure.
We don't really envisage running a 'tourist trap', although it would be good if the Centre was popular. We see the AR Centre as being a dignified and informative visitor attraction rather as Brantwood and the Ruskin Museum are now. However, there is some way to go, financially speaking . . .
