Yes, French 'mainline' trains keep to the left (even on branch lines). So does Belgium, so at the border with Holland and Germany, they have to lurch across to the right. As far as I remember, Italy keeps left too. Did the British build their railways?
Yet the Paris Métro keeps to the right. When they extended it with the RER lines to the outer suburbs, those had to keep left, because they link up with the mainline - and in some cases, reuse former mainline tracks.
