Over the summer I will be building some sort of structure in my garden for the kids to play on - incorporating swing, slide, wendy house, that sort of thing.
I started to ponder all sorts of wild and elaborate schemes....dreaming of a way to theme the play house. Several people have made them look like castles or pirate ships. Thinking of (Amazon) pirates gave me a subtle link to Ransome. I doubt there is a way to make the structure any more Ransome-ish without finding two old wooden dinghies...
I dreamed on, hoping to find some fantastic theme from childrens literature past and present with which to drive the design. It is hard! Can you think of an iconic dwelling place from a kids story which can be recreated from planks of wood?! I could even use a well-known vehicle from a book or film.
Rowling's Hogwarts or Dahl's Giant Peach are a bit too tricky. I am surprised I can't think of any more. I don't think my daughters are as familiar with the spaceships of Star Wars, otherwise that would be a great 'big boys' project!
