Re-reading SD AR states pemmican is pressed beef, as a child I always thought that was just another name for corned beef, a quick search of Wikipedia describes pressed beef and then gives the following-
The children in the literary series Swallows and Amazons frequently refer to corned beef as pemmican as it seems more adventurous to them
So... which of the two things was AR talking about?
