Yes, the geology of areas like AR's High Topps is no doubt rather complex. And when the Prospectors went to visit Slater Bob, "A thin trickle of water ran along a winding gutter", so even in a drought there was water underground. The becks would drain mostly from the ground surface layer, which had dried. I think we'd better give AR the benefit of the doubt on this one.
