Apologies for your posting problems. Easier if you want some assurance is to composed your thoughts on Word or WordPerfect (or word processor of choice) then cut and paste it into the text box.
This does not resolve the HTML italic problem, but at least you can avoid the failures.
Instead of italics, some people use parentheses anyway.
