This does not resolve the HTML italic problem, but at least you can avoid the failures.
Instead of italics, some people use parentheses anyway.
Yes, there are of course workarounds, but the test posting facility is so very good (when it works) that I always use it. Do you suppose it will return?
With the test post, you can get a proper idea of what it will look like, and a chance to tweak it in context. And I like to be able to italicise and embolden words and not worry about fingertroublingly omitting the slash in the close code. Maybe this is a ridiculously aesthetic approach...
