I agree with this. In fact the southern end of the lake seemed to be a bit of a moveable feast! In SA the implication was that there was a lot of southern end of the lake left unexplored - a vast arctic to match the vast antarctic. Later the southern end of the lake seemed to come closer to Wild Cat Island, making the island's location more Peel Island/Blakeholme and less Ramp Holme (in my annoying "real world Geography" version of AR's geography!) The exception to this would be Winter Holiday where the lake appears to revert very much to a Windermere-centric lake, especially the central region of the lake and the "Eskimo Settlements" map. The short walk from Dixon's Farm (opposite Wild Cat Island) to Holly Howe and from Holly Howe to Rio implies something much closer to a Ramp Holme / Bowness configuration. At other times these distances seem much further.
