I don't think the Great Aunt is there at all. If she were, she got even fiercer in Swallowdale. After all, in Swallows and Amazons, Nancy and Peggy never seem to have to get up in frocks and take stately drives. Perhaps Ransome wanted some tension between the Swallows and Amazons and the Natives but found that all his parents were developing into such understanding natives that the GA had to be invented in Swallowdale to preserve the tension.
