Although it is interesting to try linking all Ransome's S&A books as one continuous story, each book needs to be enjoyed individually. Like all great artists each "picture" they create is seen differently by each viewer, and viewed in a new way each time it is enjoyed. I suppose my favorite Ransome book is like Peter Duck's favorite daughter. When I was young reading the Swallows & Amazon series through a child's eyes was a totally different experience than it is now that I'm an adult (native?) reading to my 10 yr. old son, (7yrs old when I started). Without trying to analyse the style let me say I think Ransome is one of the best writers that ever inhabited this planet.
