Assuming you'll have a car, I'd suggest you do a anticlockwise circuit from Windermere (stopping at the museum) upt to Ambleside at the head of Lake Windermere then over to the head of Coniston; explore the roads around
the head of the lake (viewing the probable original of Beckfoot) and looking up at the Old Man. Then down the lake past probable site of Swallowdale to the bottom, where Octopus Lagoon is in on the exiting river.
If you then head east below the lake to the bottom of Windermere and head north again you see one of the Wildcat Island originals, and could find some of ARs houses.
I recommend "Arthur Ransome & Captain Flint's Trunk" by Christina Hardyment, which includes an account of exploring the Lakes to find AR places.
